Privacy Policy

What we collect

BuyWise collects the product review text and URLs you submit for analysis and the resulting analysis data. When you sign in with Google, we store your email address and a user identifier so we can track your usage quota. Anonymous users (not signed in) have their daily quota tracked locally in the browser only — no account is created. We do not sell your data to third parties.

How we use it

• To run fake-review analysis on product pages you visit
• To enforce free-tier usage limits (3 deep analyses per day for anonymous users)
• To cache analysis results so repeat lookups are fast
• To improve our detection models (aggregated and anonymised)

Cookies & analytics

We use PostHog for product analytics on this website (getbuywise.com). PostHog may set session-tracking cookies. You can opt out by enabling "Do Not Track" in your browser. We do not use advertising cookies. The Chrome extension uses Sentry for anonymous error reporting — error reports contain stack traces and extension version information only, no personal data or browsing history.

Data retention

Analysis results are cached for up to 7 days. Account data is retained while your account is active. You can request deletion by emailing privacy@getbuywise.com.

Third-party services

Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights under GDPR (EU/UK) or CCPA (California) including:

• Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• Deletion: Ask us to delete your account and associated data
• Correction: Request correction of inaccurate data
• Portability: Receive your data in a machine-readable format
• Opt-out: California residents may opt out of the sale of personal information — we do not sell personal information

Data security

Data is transmitted over HTTPS and stored in Supabase, which is hosted on AWS infrastructure with encryption at rest. Access to production data is restricted to authorised personnel. In the event of a breach affecting your personal data, we will notify affected users within 72 hours of becoming aware, as required by GDPR Article 33.

Chrome extension data access

The BuyWise Chrome extension requests the following permissions:

• activeTab: Reads the product page you're currently viewing to extract review data for analysis
• storage: Stores your session token and cached analysis results locally in your browser
• identity: Used only if you choose to sign in with Google — not accessed otherwise

The extension does not read pages outside of supported retailer domains (Amazon, Walmart, Target, Best Buy, eBay). Your full browsing history is never accessed or transmitted.

Offline mode: When enabled in Settings, all analysis runs locally in your browser. No review text or product data is sent to our servers — everything stays on your device.
